About My Journey!

Hello! I’m excited to take a moment to introduce myself and share a glimpse into my life as a jewelry maker, along with some personal aspects beyond my craft.

For nearly 20 years, I have nurtured my passion for jewelry making under the name Ocean Sage. My journey began in a rather unique setting—on a 50-foot yacht, where my husband and I called home. Each morning, I would stroll from our marina to the quaint village nearby, sipping on a warm cup of coffee as the day unfolded. The soft sound of lapping waves and the scent of salty air were my constants during those blissful mornings.

One of my favorite rituals was wandering the beach, collecting sea glass washed ashore by the rhythms of the ocean. The vibrant colors and the smooth, frosted surfaces of each piece inspired my creativity. It wasn’t long before I began turning these precious finds into jewelry, combining them with other materials to create unique, handcrafted pieces. This led me to collaborate with four talented women in a local gift shop, where our collective artistry thrived, fostering a community of creativity and support.

However, life took an unexpected turn with the passing of my husband’s father. We relocated to Iowa to help manage the family farm, a transition that made me feel like my jewelry-making days were behind me. The rural landscape was a stark contrast to the coastal charm I once knew, and I found myself grappling with this new reality. But sometimes, life has a way of surprising you.

After settling into our new life, I discovered the Art Center of Burlington. It became a beacon of opportunity, reigniting my passion for jewelry making. The supportive environment encouraged me to showcase my work and reconnect with my craft. I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the art community was and how my jewelry resonated with others. This chapter of my life reaffirmed the notion that creativity knows no bounds, regardless of circumstances.

Today, Ocean Sage represents not just a brand, but a testament to resilience and adaptation. Each piece of jewelry I create is a reflection of my journey, infused with the spirit of the ocean and the serenity of life on land. It serves as a reminder that beauty can arise in unexpected places, and that pursuing one’s passion is a lifelong endeavor.
